Turning Point

My journey too really, finally getting serious about Internet Marketing. It is time to sink or swim, stop dabbling on the periphery of the party and learn to dance.

Las Vegas

I started to write this post twice before but things just keep getting in the way; I think that may have been a subtle form of what Marshall Sylver calls a “Non-Confront”. An excuse to avoid doing something that I know I need to do. I know that I use many non-confronts in my daily life, primarily by convincing myself there just isn’t time, and by SLEEPING! Yes! Sleeping as a form of avoidance guilty as charged your honor.
I have been experimenting with what I will call “The Edison Principle”. As told at the Turning Point by Marshall Sylver, Thomas Edison, as a matter of course, slept only when he was sleepy, rather than when it was “time for bed”. I have always done that with respect to eating, eating only when hungry rather than when it was “time to eat”. SO, why not try it with sleeping? The idea is to give me more time to focus on I G A (Income Generating Activities); so far “The Edison Principle” is producing mixed results, so I will keep trying…
Overall the Turning Point seminar was great, I got to meet many of the leaders of GVO, Janet Legere, Gerry Schroeder, Joel Therien and Mike Potvin, Ken Hammond, all really great people. I also met Jerry Meyer, but only long enough for him to bend me back and shove a flaming stick down my throat! But I am sure he is a great guy too! There was also a great deal of food for thought, and I think that after three months, some of it has finally been “mentally digested”.

Distractions

Something that Marshall said more than once was to get rid of distractions; I know that I have many “comfortable” distractions that eat away at my time and my money. There isn’t anyone, IMHO, who cannot relate to that. Well the time has come for me to have my “Turning Point”!  One of the recurring themes at the Turning Point event was eating fire, and everyone in attendance was expected to partake. I admit I was eager to do it, the feeling was similar to when I had my water skiing disaster, but that is a story for another time, suffice to say the feeling didn’t turn out so well that time. This time it did, Marshall broke it down logically, remove the emotion and deal with the facts, the science of the process; once he did that it was like drinking water, I knew I could do it.

My “Turning Point”

I knew when I started getting serious about Internet Marketing “that I could do it” too. But there have been some really big pits in those cherries! My turning point is that I have reached a financial crisis; I have an overdrawn checking account and all my credit cards are maxed.  Internet marketing is costing more than it is paying, and for some that may be the breaking point, should I quit, focus on recovering and saving and forget this nonsense and making money on the Internet? I know that were I to ask friends and family they would say yes….

There’s just one thing though, “I knew I could do it”, and I still believe that. So, I am doing what any business man would do faced with a similar situation, reduce expenses, tighten my belt, work harder and come out the other side stronger! I have canceled all the distractions in my life, and nearly all of the expenses in my Internet Marketing life.
I took Marshall Sylver’s advice and canceled my cable television, at $140 a month  it was a big distraction. Although I was more like the weekend binge drinker thanks to the invention of the DVR; I could record all my favorite programs or movies, and spend the entire weekend in a boob tube daze…prime time for doing my second job of internet marketing…wasted. NO MORE, it’s gone, I did keep the internet service though, for obvious reasons and it can be a business expense on next year’s taxes.

GONE!

I was as guilty as the next guy of falling victim to the “next big thing”, that is how my cards got maxed! So, all my upgraded memberships in traffic exchanges…gone; all the “next big thing” programs I belonged to, gone…well, almost.
I did keep the obvious ones, GVO, or you wouldn’t be seeing this post; and TrafficLeads2Income because, and Rob Gehring the founder of TL2I, may not like this but, I believe more in the community he has created than in the program. I DO love the program and the fact that so much control over it is given to the members, but the amazing support and training, and members helping members that is available 24/7/365 is just about overwhelming. I have seen no other program that has such personalized support and program control, it is incredible. If you are interested see my other post on TL2I and Part 2. There are three (?) other programs that are costing from $37 to $67 dollars a month, and I have been pulling a “Non-Confront” on them, but no more!

Future Shock

I will be focusing on those languishing programs in the coming days and will share my experience in future posts, good or bad you will know what my experience is. If I like it and am getting good results I will link to it in my posts, if not I will cancel my membership and you will know that too. So tighten up your belt as I have, and hold on because this is my TURNING POINT!

  1. Nice post Tim, and I agree with your TL2I assessment. Anyone can launch a program, trust me, there are tons out there. But building a community is much harder to do and I am proud of what we have accomplished in doing it. The great thing is, there is so much more we can do at TL2I! I think you’ve turned the corner Tim, you are doing things that many people would not do so your commitment to success is showing and your 2010 is going to be stellar……stay the course!

  2. Great post Tim – way to take action.

Turning Point was a HUGE turning point for both Don and I.

I know you are going to “MAKI IT” – this post is evidence of your future success.

I look forward to more :-)

  3. I am also guilty of falling for the next big program. I was probably the lead program jumper in the internet marketing world.

I remember i even joined 5 different programs in a weeks time and probably gave it a day and then went on to the next.

LOL@ Craig; Yes I think that it was time to settle down anyway! Nice to know I am not alone! Part of my problem is also hitting a wall in a program, and then like a kids toy, turning and rolling away until I happen to roll back to the wall through sheer coincidence! You can spend (waste) a lot of money that way!
